The Journey of AWS in Indore

Indore, with a population of approximately 3 million, holds the prestigious title of being the cleanest city in India. Despite its accolades, it may not immediately come to mind as a hub for nurturing children with intellectual disabilities.

However, that’s precisely the mission undertaken by Mr. Ajay Jain and Mrs. Anamika Jain, parents of a teenager with special needs whose behavioral challenges made family life difficult. Determined to improve the quality of life for individuals with intellectual disabilities, they established the Avijit Welfare Society (AWS) in March 2015, serving as a beacon of hope for families facing similar struggles.

Inspired by the successful endeavors of the Shree Dheerubai Patel Mangalmurti Vikalang Trust in Junagadah, Gujarat, Mr. and Mrs. Jain embarked on this noble journey within their own community in Indore. Despite initial skepticism, they managed to garner support and enroll two children with special needs in their residential special school located in Panchavati Colony.

The challenges of caring for and guiding children with conditions such as autism, cerebral palsy, mental retardation and multiple disabilities are immense, but the unwavering support of parents, society, and dedicated staff members has enabled AWS to thrive.

The facilities at AWS include a multi-utility hall where academic and vocational training, indoor fitness exercises, indoor sports, music classes, etc. take place. The profits generated from the sale of vocational products are invested back into the well-being of beneficiaries to motivate their skills.

As AWS continues to expand its reach and impact, it remains committed to its core mission of providing a nurturing environment where every child, regardless of their abilities, can flourish and lead a fulfilling life.
